The Runaway
Ricardo Hernandez is Pastor of Verbo Nicaragua in Managua. Ricardo is a gifted speaker, a man of prayer, one who rightly divides the Word of Truth and a leader of men. This humble man did not start out with a silver spoon in his mouth. At the age of 14, Huck Finn style, he ran away from home, taking a boat from the coast of El Salvador down the Pacific to the coast of Nicaragua. He became a day laborer, working the cane fields in northwestern Nicaragua.
By the time he was in his early twenties Ricardo had made his way to Puerto Cabeza on the Atlantic Coast. It was here that he met pastor/missionary Bob Trolese who saw some-thing special in Ricardo. In time he followed Bob back to Managua where he was discipled and active in the Verbo local church. More and more responsibilities were given to him. In April 2000 he stepped in to take over leadership and pastoring of the Verbo church in Managua following the Trolese's near fatal car accident.
It is a joy to attend one of their worship services where a spirit of love and joy prevail. On Sunday morning there are three services with attendance of about 500 - 700 in each. Prayer meetings are attended by about 500. They have recently found a nearby large building that would give them room to grow with lots of parking spaces. It will take the blessing of the Lord for this poor congregation (money-wise) to purchase it, but they have faith to belleve it
will one day be theirs.
