Hurricane Felix damage continues to worsen in Nicaragua
The picture above this story shows a photo of The Verbo Church in Puerto Cabezas Nicaragua is being used as a refugee site. Reports continue to worsen as tales of the hurricane’s battering of the costal villages come in. Puerto Cabezas though rural, has more infrastructure then the palm thatch construction in so many of the deserted beach communities.
Myra and I will go out to Puerto Cabezas tomorrow. Regular flights have resumed, though I understand the flight tower was damaged. Walking into these ‘messes’ really touches one at the fragility of human existence. Kind, normal people with family deaths happened right before their eyes. These families lost absolutely every stitch of household belongings. Sadly, everything was swept away. Biblically, the frequency of these occurrences seems to be significantly on the rise.
Many Christian organizations have called me, requesting assistance with the coordination of certain logistics. We are honored of course. Significance though, in both the genuine longevity of effective aide, and the ministering of God’s love and concern, will be the challenge towards the church. Compassion and strategy can be seen in so much of the Lord’s response to the needs surrounding him. Like the man born blind, not due to the sinful nature of himself or his parents, but rather an opportunity of the magnification of the gospel.
Verbo was birthed responding to a need. So much of church history has responded, and has been thusly theologically deepened, so that our love might prove our son and daughtership. I´ll keep you posted, but probably not until next Monday. It will be a joy, if regretfully, to be able to be with our church at Verbo in Puerto Cabezas during these moments.
Please make a donation to help Hurricane Felix victims today. $5, $25, $50 or more can and will make a big difference in the lives of these Nicaraguan families.
