A team of 5 adults and 11 teens from Oregon were blessed by working with Pastor Ramon and Miriam Baca, pastors of the Verbo Church LaChureca. They helped to provide a camp experience for 56 children who live in La Chureca, which is located in the city dump of Managua Nicaragua. The children were all bussed down to Campo Alegria which means Camp Happiness, it is located in the Southern part of Nicaragua. The daily schedule included crafts, games and bible stories. Boys played sports on the beach while girls learned worship dance and enjoyed face painting. Each of the four different teams participated in english classes, science classes, swimming in Lake Nicaragua as well as a separate bible time for girls (with Miriam) and boys (with Pastor Ramon). From the standpoint of one of the Oregon leaders; the best time was the evening chapel time. It was during this time that our team performed dramas, taught bible lessons and worshiped with song and dance. We observed the presence of the Holy Spirit so strongly as children who arrived with hardened hearts began to worship and soften in their spirit and actions. The children who arrived on Friday were not the same children when they left camp on Monday. Our last chapel time together on Monday morning included each child writing down a prayer request and taping it to a cross. The children were prayed over and annointed with oil. There was not a dry eye in the room. The goodbyes were heart-wrenching. The children touched our hearts and will never be forgotten. Their prayer requests hang on our refrigerator in our home. As we process all the wonderful things God did during this camp experience we are already desiring to return to Nicaragua to see "our kids" who will forever be in our hearts. A special blessing to Pastor Ramon and Miriam for their tender hearts, tenacity, strength and endurance. You are both heros in our eyes and we will be praying for you and your ministry on a daily basis. Lauri Young
